The worst thing that can befall anyone is that they be judged by God to be cursed on account of their unrepented mortal sins and be condemned for eternity to the pits of Hell. Our bishops rarely, if ever, mention Hell. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that:
1035 The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer the punishments of hell, “eternal fire.” The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs. (CCC)
Abortion is a mortal sin when those involved have full knowledge and full consent. Those who partake in abortion in any way, if they do not repent and go to confession before they die, will spend eternity in Hell. This is the stark reality of abortion, it leads souls to Hell for eternity. But our shepherds have fallen silent on this most important matter. A quick review of statements on the Irish Bishops’ website show that our bishops are more concerned with natural life than with eternal life. They speak of the ‘right to life’ of the unborn but they do not mention that those who legislate for or partake in abortion are risking their eternal salvation i.e. their eternal life. Abortion represents a greater eternal danger to those who support it than it does to innocent unborn children, yet this is ignored by our bishops.
One could come to the conclusion that our bishops do not really believe in Hell if one were to judge the matter on how most funerals are conducted in Ireland. The congregation are regularly told that the deceased is now in Heaven enjoying the beatific vision. Purgatory is rarely mentioned as being more probable than direct ascent to Heaven for the deceased.
The Catechism of the Council of Trent, or the Roman Catechism as it is also known says the following regarding Hell.
“Turning next to those who shall stand on his left, he will pour out his justice on them in these words: ” Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” These first words, ” depart from me,” express the heaviest punishment with which the wicked shall be visited their eternal banishment from the sight of God, unrelieved by one consolatory hope of recovering so great a good. This divines call ” the pain of loss,” because in hell, the wicked shall be deprived of the light of the vision of God. The words ” ye cursed,” which are added, must augment to an extreme degree, their wretched and calamitous condition. If when banished from the Divine presence, they could hope for blessing of any sort, it might be to them some source of consolation; but deprived of every such expectation that could alleviate calamity, the divine justice, whose severity their crimes have provoked, pursues them with every species of malediction. The words, ” into everlasting fire,” which follow, express another sort of punishment, called by Divines ” the pain of sense; because, like other corporal punishments, amongst which, no doubt, fire produces the most intense pain, it is felt through the organs of sense. When, moreover, we reflect that this pain is to be eternal, we are at once satisfied that the punishment of the damned admits of no increase.”
The Catechism continues:
“These are considerations, which the pastor should very frequently press upon the attention of the faithful; the truth which this Article announces, seen with the eyes of faith, is most efficacious in bridling the perverse propensities of the heart, and withdrawing souls from sin. Hence we read in Ecclesiasticus: ” Remember thy last end, and thou shall never sin.” And in deed, it is almost impossible to find one so prone to vice, as not to be capable of being recalled to the pursuit of virtue, by the reflection that the day will come when he shall have to render an account before a most rigorous judge, not only of all his words and actions, but even of his most secret thoughts, and shall suffer punishment according to his deserts. But the just man must be more and more excited to cultivate justice, and, although doomed to spend his life in want, and obloquy, and torments, he must be transported with the greatest joy, when he looks forward to that day on which, when the conflicts of this wretched life are over, he shall be declared victorious in the hearing of all men; and admitted into his heavenly country, shall be crowned with divine, and these, also, eternal honours. It becomes, therefore, the duty of the pastor to exhort the faithful to model their lives after the best manner, and exercise themselves in every practice of piety; that thus they may be enabled to look forward with greater security, to the great coming day of the Lord, and even as becomes children, desire it most earnestly.”
Legalised abortion is the culmination of a long process of indoctrination and government led media brainwashing. The process begins by attacking traditional Catholic marriage and family which is where God has ordained that children should be born. Contraception attacks the primary end of marriage which is children. Divorce attacks the indissolubility of marriage. So-called same-sex marriage attacks the very nature of marriage as being between one man and one woman. Abortion attacks the glorious fruits of our sexuality by killing an innocent human being in the womb. All of these evils have been legalised.
But you never hear our bishops calling for the repeal of contraceptive legislation, or for the repeal of the divorce legislation. I have yet to hear any bishop in Ireland object to the promiscuous sex-education that has been promoted in our Catholic schools for decades. These RSE programmes are directly responsible for an increase in the demand for abortion but our bishops refuse to address this catalyst for abortion.
On 9th March 2023, Norma Foley launched a new Primary Curriculum Framework. You can download the document HERE. This framework promotes gender ideology. On page 32 it states:
“The framework is concerned with the best interest of every child, considering that they vary in their competence, language, family background, age, culture, ethnic status, religion, gender, and sexual identity.”
Yet our bishops welcomed this document without expressing any reservations! You can read their statement HERE.
In their statement the bishops commend the NCCA (National Council for Curriculum Assessment). The NCCA have released their updated RSE programme for the Junior Cycle. You can read it HERE. The Catholic Education Partnership actually welcomed this programme which promotes a view of sexuality that is contrary to Catholic teaching and their statement was published on the Irish Bishops’ conference website HERE.
Of note is strand 3 on Relationships and Sexuality which is below.
Point 3.6 Promotes gender ideology and acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle.
Point 3.8 Promotes consent and not traditional marriage as the basis for engaging in sexual activity.
Point 3.9 Promotes contraception and the fake notion of ‘safer sex’.
Yet, to date, our bishops are silent on this.
Our bishops have issued a response to the recent report by Marie O’Shea B.L. “The Independent Review of the operation Of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018”, but their critique is pointless and mere words unless they are prepared to tackle the causes that lead women and girls to choose abortion. What is being taught in Irish Catholic schools as part of the SPHE programme leads young people to sexual promiscuity and therefore young girls become pregnant. This is turn increases the demand for abortion.
The failure of the Irish bishops to speak about the eternal consequences for those who die with unrepented mortal sin on their souls and their failure to publicly oppose gender ideology and to prevent it from taking place in the Catholic schools which are under their patronage, lessens the gravity of abortion in peoples minds and indirectly leads to an increase in the abortion numbers.
It seems to me that many of those who oppose abortion in Ireland do not realise that our government is not acting alone. They are following directives which are given to them by a global ruling class who operate behind the scenes of politics. The global ruling class uses money and other forms of coercion in order to bring about the changes they have decided are necessary for society. The changes they seek are designed to support their own interests and are generally not in accordance with Catholic morality or with the common good. Of course the global ruling class always seek to portray their promotion of mortally sinful actions as a great good to ease the acceptance of evil by the general population.
“Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.” (Isaiah 5:20)
The Irish government has no intention of repealing their abortion laws and the recent, supposedly independent, report on the operation of those abortion laws is simply a tactic used by government to falsely claim that they are acting after consultation with the public and in the public interest. They are not. They are carrying out the directives of the global ruling class which seeks to make abortion legal in every jurisdiction in the world. The Irish government, despite their statements that nothing has been decided, will ease the restrictions on abortion in Ireland and will seek to coerce doctors and others to take part in the killing.
This is clearly indicated in the acknowledgements section of the report which affirm the false and dangerous gender ideology being promoted by global forces and which are now targetted at very young children. On page 5, Marie O’Shea notes that, “In this report, the term ‘women’ includes women, girls and all people who can become pregnant.”
Marie O’Shea is not capable of conducting this report or any other report because her ideological understanding leads her to believe that there are others besides women and girls who can become pregnant. This shows that she is giving the nod to the false and dangerous gender ideology which is so harmful to children. But our bishops are silent.
We will never rid our country of abortion until we tackle the root causes of abortion the primary one being the disintegration of family life in Ireland with the lack of proper catechesis in the Catholic schools coming in a close second.
Let us pray that our bishops will wake up to what is really happening in Ireland and let up pray that at least one of them will begin speaking out against the gender ideology and take the necessary action to purge this dangerous ideology from our once Catholic schools.
May God bless you
